In 1993 I went to New York for the first time to visit Emily who was taking a summer class at NYU. New York
was another planet to me. Once, we even saw Dee-lite's Lady Miss Kier, our idol, wearing platform shoes
and talking to some kids on the corner. That was pretty much the coolest thing this 18 year old midwestern
gal had ever seen.
When I was 20 in 1994, I moved to San Francisco and was roomates with Megan on Bartlette and 22nd St. in the Mission
We got hit up by some Vidal Sassoon students and let them have their way with us. We thought we were
quite special to be stopped on the street like that and asked to be "models". Later we realized we were suckers.

That same year, 1995, I moved to Seattle with Melissa Lane. She left but I stayed a while
and lived by myself in a tiny but great aparnment with a view of The Pin for $400
On New Years Day 1996, I went to Mexico for what would have been a month long tour. But the day after my
22nd birthday, the trip was cut short when I got the news of my dad's death and I bolted back to Madison.
