AUGUST 2000

These are from the second of three albums of photos I took on my cross-country trip to Italy with this man....

Cristiano DiInnocenti. We met here in the Spring and I went over there for a month in the Summer

I look like his little brother here

I would take a photo of everyplace we slept. We mostly camped, and in some desperate places,

like here - some guys we met let us set up outside their billiards hall on the dirt lawn

The outskirts of a National Park. Cristiano REFUSED to pay for a place to stay, even if it was POURING rain (true story)

And that's the Moto Guzzi we road

No matter what, before we did anything, Cristiano would make us espressos with this tiny espresso making kit.

He'd shove packets of sugar in his pockets along the way

We squatted at the base of a building one night

Cristiano knew people all over the place and we'd stay with them too. Like here, in Monopoli, with his friend Dominico

All over the South of Italy there were festivals honoring the Patron Saints of the different towns

I was using a Minolta X700 SLR camera at the time, and Cristiano got really into the double exposure effect

I thought this carving of a guy farting was funny!

Did you realize Ann was an international spokes model?

I wore these really crappy sandals that dyed the bottoms of my feet black. So, one morning, I peeled off

some of the skin and clipped away at the bottom of my foot, and carved a picture of an old man's face.
