FEBRUARY - MARCH 2003

I went to Costa Rica a few years ago with Brooke for two weeks. It was very needed INDEED. So good

infract, that she left and I ended up staying there for a month by myself and then spent another month

in Panama. These photos are all from my time spent in Panama (one of three albums from South America)

I spent most of my time on the island, Bocas del Toro and stayed at a hostel run by an exlawyer from Williamsburg

Brooklyn (you can imagine my surprise to discover that!) You had to get around in a water taxi

I met a gal named Carin and we ended up being travel companions. She was up for adventure too! Plus, she reminded

me SO much of my very oldest friend, Mary Leonard - all sweet, pretty and scrubbed - and I felt less homesick

I was there during a carnival time...maybe Mardi Gras?

I know...too tan is gross

A Swedish woman named Kristina was also staying at the hostel. She was 71, a cancer survivor, liked

to stay up till 4am doing the dishes and was covered with blackline tattoos. She said everything is more fun

when you do it at night but still was up at dawn to swim. She would carry tiny bottles of rum in her purse

(used to be filled with shampoo or honey) and kept these same bottles filled with coke in the freezer.

She and I became friends and would sit up at night drinking rum and cokes and chatting

Lalo is a tattoo artist and did a couple new ones for Kristina

This is KC, the guy who owns the hostel
